Course Description

Offered for the first time in collaboration with the Leica Akademie, this two-week online workshop is designed for current owners of as well as those interested in exploring the Leica M10.

Led by not one, but two Leica instructors, this comprehensive workshop goes far beyond what can be absorbed from an instruction manual or an online tutorial. John Kreidler and Tom A. Smith provide an unheard-of opportunity to advance your technical skills and understanding of this iconic camera system.

Through a myriad of presentations, hands-on exercises and technical insights, you begin to think and see like the M10. From basic camera settings as a foundation, to step-by-step tips to help you increase the accuracy of your metering and speed of focus each session helps ensure that you are making the most of the capabilities of the Leica M10. Additional topics include an in-depth review of the M System, focusing techniques, customizing the camera, overview of Leica lenes, the keys to mastering the M10, discovering “The Leica Way of Seeing,”, an introduction to the Leica Foto App, and tips for post processing Leica Files.

Whether you have just purchased the Leica M10 or have been using Leica rangefinders for decades, you are sure to expand your skill set and knowledge base, while moving one step closer to mastering your rangefinder.

Don’t own the Leica M, but have an interest in field testing the system?
A very limited number of loaner cameras kits are available on a first come, first served basis, while supply lasts. Please email info@santafeworkshops.com with your interest in a loaner after registering.

John Kreidler

John Kreidler is the East Coast Product Specialist and co-host of Leica’s streaming Tech Talk program on YouTube. John brings more than 25 years’ experience providing imaging and production insight to professional photographers and enthusiasts alike.

Equal parts, photographer, educator, and trainer, John can frequently be found, giving those interested in Leica products an opportunity to experience them in a real-life situation, during Pro Discovery Days, Leica Store events and Akademie workshops, throughout the country.

An accomplished photographer, his on-going obsession with capturing light and shadow started from an early age. He strives to move beyond the beautiful snapshot and create an image that evokes emotion in the viewer’s mind. Most recently, John’s work was selected to appear in the new book, “Inspiration Leica Akademie.”

Tom A. Smith

Tom A. Smith has been Director for the Leica Akademie USA for over a decade. He has been on a mission to bring the experience of working with a Leica to a whole new generation of photographers. To date, he has created or lead experiential programs and trips for more than 5,000 photographers around the world.

A graduate of the Savannah College of Art and Design. Tom has a background in theatre and photojournalism. Prior to joining, Leica, he worked with end consumers, photo dealers and some of the most respected photographers in the industry, in technical training and education positions at The Disney Institute and Nikon USA.
