This workshop is designed for photographers eager to take their first step into the art of video storytelling. Over the course of six online sessions, participants are introduced to the core techniques of video editing and production.
Together with Marco Serventi, you explore important video editing techniques and receive an in-depth introduction to Adobe Premiere Pro, the industry’s leading video editing software. We examine essential skills including project setup, editing and sequencing, audio mixing, color correction, applying transitions and effects, and exporting finished pieces for various platforms. Marco covers crucial aspects of project organization and workflow management, enabling you to efficiently handle multiple media types and editing tasks.
Marco also provides an introduction to the technical aspects of filming and capturing footage, including an overview of in-camera settings, framing, camera movements, recording sound, as well as various storytelling methods that can help you craft compelling narratives. Participants are invited to build upon existing creative and technical skill sets and apply their knowledge of composition, settings, and other photographic concepts to the world of video.
Beyond technical skills, Marco encourages you to analyze case studies and real-world examples, including short films, video-photography hybrids, and documentary excerpts, to explore the creative possibilities of video and learn how to conceptualize and execute powerful visual narratives. You are asked to consider the strengths of different visual mediums based on story and message, and learn methods of integrating video into your existing photographic practice.
Each group session concludes with a creative assignment, inviting you to practice and experiment with the filmmaking techniques and software workflows. Group reviews and discussions are an important part of this workshop. By the end of our time together, you have a solid grasp of essential filming techniques, Adobe Premiere Pro editing skills, and a toolkit of creative ideas to produce engaging video projects.
No prior filmmaking experience is required. This workshop welcomes photographers who wish to translate their visual skill set into video, as well as other creatives new to the filmmaking process.
Participants need to have a camera that is able to shoot high-quality video as well as an up-to-date version of Adobe Premiere Pro.
Class will meet 9:30 – 11:30 am (Mountain Time) on Tuesdays starting January 21 and ending February 25 (six online group sessions). Enrollment is limited to 12 participants.
Zoom Video Conferencing software (available for no charge from Zoom.com) will be used to facilitate the class sessions. Further details will be emailed to registrants.
Santa Fe Workshops always aims to produce a high-quality experience for our online attendees. That said, variables including regional and local internet provider speeds, traffic on Zoom's servers, and your own computing hardware can contribute to a less than ideal streaming event. While we do our best to minimize the impact of these variables, they are outside the control of Santa Fe Workshops.

For the convenience of participants, recordings of each class session are posted privately for one month after the end of each session. Santa Fe Workshops takes the recordings down after one month to protect the intellectual property of our instructors.
