From the beginning of her creative journey, fine art photographer Elizabeth Opalenik has been fascinated by the transformative qualities of water. Her inspiration has centered around the mysteries, possibilities, reflections, and illusions of this natural force, and the duality of water’s strong power and soft sensuality. From currents shaping coastlines to raindrops bringing forth new life, from its reflective light to its elusive darkness, water offers endless possibilities for the curious and explorative visual artist.
Elizabeth works with water as a creative medium in its own right, introducing it into many aspects of her imagery. Her subjects, often flowers and models, are submerged and visually dance within ripples and reflections. Through the use of water, Elizabeth’s work is unified by a sensibility that can only be described as “gracefully sensual.” From Elizabeth: “I find exciting the illusion of reflective surfaces, and the calm I feel rocking the darkroom tray of water in Mordançage as I gently lift the silver veils of emulsion. Like life, water is unpredictable. I am not interested in the photograph as reality, but as a journey into possibilities of what else there is; be it a memory, a moment in time or a feeling of self vaguely recalled and perhaps reflected back.”
Join us for this evening in March to hear Elizabeth speak about the ways in which water has shaped her work over time. This conversation will be followed by a short question and answer session with the audience. Even if you can’t make the live event, a recording of it will be available for all those registered.
Creativity Continues is a way to connect, encouraging expression, and is a collective way to develop creative voices. The goal is to engage all within our creative community. We encourage extending invitations and sharing Santa Fe Workshops Creativity Continues events with any whom express an interest.
Many thanks to everyone who joined us live. View the recorded program below:
