Santa Fe Workshops collection of free online events, Creativity Continues, features a special evening with National Geographic Explorer Corey Arnold. As a photographer and commercial fisherman, Corey’s presentation weaves through several bodies of work that explore man’s relationship with animals.

Our co-existence with wildlife is getting more complicated as humans expand their influence deeper into nature. Corey’s recent project, “Cities Gone Wild,” was originally commissioned by a grant from the National Geographic Society and published in National Geographic Magazine in July of 2022. The series is an exploration of how urban animals, mainly raccoons, black bears, and coyotes are adapting to life in our human-altered landscape. Corey has spent several years stalking urban coyotes in Chicago, camera trapping raccoons breaking into homes, and photographing people that pet bears in their backyards in order to tell the story of how some animals are surviving or even thriving in our urbanized world while others are disappearing. Encounters with wildlife along the way have become a central theme in his work.  Shared with our audience is Corey’s unlikely path as he evolved as a photographer while working as a commercial fisherman in Alaska where he continues to captain a salmon fishing boat every summer.

Corey’s photographs have been exhibited extensively worldwide and included in numerous public and private collections including the Portland Art Museum and the Center for Creative Photography. His photography has been featured in The New Yorker, New York Times, National Geographic, Time, Outside, Fortune, Smithsonian, and The Paris Review among others. Recent awards include 1st Place Nature at the Sony World Photography Awards, POYI, World Press Photo, and Grand Prize at the Big Picture Natural World Awards.

Corey ends his presentation with a Q & A session with the webinar audience. Even if you can’t make the live event, a recording of it will be available for all those registered.

Creativity Continues is a program that collectively develops creative voices by offering connection and encouraging expression. Because the goal is to engage all within our creative community, we encourage you to extend invitations and share Santa Fe Workshops Creativity Continues events with anyone who expresses an interest.
