Course Description

Understanding and controlling light quality has been at the core of all of Tony Corbell’s workshops and presentations for more than thirty years. In this new online workshop, join Tony and learn how to see light, control it, and create striking photographs using both natural and artificial light. At the end of three weeks together, you have developed a unique perspective and the knowledge to embrace pushing the limits of your lighting experience, imagination, and talents.

Tony starts by discussing and illustrating all the many types of lighting and the tools to capture it. These tools include portable flash, studio strobes, sunlight, and ambient light. Lighting applications Tony covers include additive, subtractive, reflective, and transmission. Next, each combination of tool and application is shown and discussed in depth. Tony explains the importance of lighting control in digital capture and shows how a few seconds of extra time spent before the moment of capture can save hours in post-production. Working with flash outdoors is another important component of this high-energy workshop.

You have time between group sessions to practice and experiment with these new-found lighting skills, and these images are reviewed by Tony during the next class session. Tony’s workshop is ideally suited for intermediate-level photographers who want to learn to see and control light in a wide variety of situations and solutions.
