Course Description

Immerse yourself in the breathtaking beauty of Santa Fe’s skies, explore a creative muse above, and master a variety of new photographic techniques in this unique workshop with Kristi Odom. This new program is designed for photographers who wish to elevate their artistry by capturing the mysterious allure of wide-open desert skies, a dizzying accumulation of cloud formations, vivid stars, and the Milky Way.

Set against the stunning backdrop of New Mexico’s diverse landscapes, you learn to transform ordinary skies into extraordinary works of art. Kristi guides participants through the mesmerizing world of cloudscapes and starry nights, and provides demonstrations and assignments designed to help you translate the beauty of the night. Throughout this workshop, you explore new techniques for capturing dynamic cloud formations, photographing sunsets, creating artwork with stars, and mastering long-exposure photography to bring the sky to life. Through a blend of technical instruction and creative exploration, we cover:

  • Cloud Photography: Techniques for capturing dramatic cloud formations by using filters, timelapse photography, and stacking techniques.
  • Astrophotography: Mastering the art of photographing celestial bodies and the Milky Way, including essential equipment, camera settings, and long-exposure tips.
  • Composition and Mood: How to create emotive and striking compositions that convey the vastness and mystery of the sky.
  • Fine Art: How to create unique and impressionable images that celebrate not only the sky, but you as an artist.

Our week together includes hands-on field sessions, where we venture to iconic locations around Santa Fe, allowing you to practice your skills in a supportive environment. These location sessions are paired with time in the classroom, where Kristi reviews your new images and discusses post-processing techniques that enhance your images and bring your artistic vision to life.

Join Kristi on this creative journey and discover how to capture the enchanting beauty above, turning your photography into fine art that reflects the unique spirit of Santa Fe’s early morning, sunset, and night skies.
