What happens when you start thinking of Lightroom and Photoshop as part of the same workflow?
Lightroom gives you the tools to organize, develop, and refine your photographs, but there are times when you want to push an image further. There comes a point when Lightroom can’t quite take an image where you want it to go. That’s where Photoshop comes in. From repairing and retouching photographs to combining images and making precise adjustments, Photoshop opens up new ways to shape and refine your work.
In this new online program, retouching expert Josh Withers focuses on the processes and techniques that Photoshop makes possible, showing you how to move an image from Lightroom into Photoshop, make more advanced edits, and bring it back into Lightroom as part of your overall workflow.
Over two sessions, Josh looks at the different roles Lightroom and Photoshop play throughout the editing process, with an emphasis on working in Photoshop. He covers layers and masks, demonstrates a flexible, non-destructive workflow, and looks at different ways to make precise changes to an image. Topics include image repair and retouching, combining multiple images, enhancing details, and other techniques that give you more control over the final photograph.
Some of the techniques use Photoshop’s newer Artificial Intelligence tools, while others rely on tools and methods that have been part of Photoshop for decades. Josh shows how these different approaches can work together and when one method may be more useful than another.
Along the way, you have plenty of opportunities to ask questions, dig into specific techniques, and get a closer look at the decisions that shape an edit. You come away with a better sense of how to move between Lightroom and Photoshop and a broader understanding of what’s possible when you bring the two together.
Basic knowledge of Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop are required for this program.
Class will meet 12:30 – 3:00 pm (Mountain Time) on Tuesday, January 19, and Tuesday, January 26 (two online group sessions).
Zoom Video Conferencing software (available for no charge from Zoom.com) will be used to facilitate the class sessions. Further details will be emailed to registrants.
These live online sessions take place in the standard Zoom meeting format. Students can use their microphone and camera, see and hear the instructor and other students, and participate in live discussion and interaction throughout the sessions.
Santa Fe Workshops always aims to produce a high-quality experience for our online attendees. That said, variables including regional and local internet provider speeds, traffic on Zoom's servers, and your own computing hardware can contribute to a less-than-ideal streaming event. While we do our best to minimize the impact of these variables, they are outside the control of Santa Fe Workshops.
