Course Description

Join Stephanie Johnson on location in Santa Fe, New Mexico, for an immersive experience of creativity using the in-camera techniques of Intentional Camera Movement and Multiple Exposure ICM to create wonderfully abstract images in the Southwest desert landscape.  With a focus on light, color, contrast, line, pattern, and texture, you learn to create expressive ICM and ME ICM images by working deliberately with the camera to explore how all these elements come together beautifully when you employ intentional camera movement.

This workshop is designed specifically for doing ICM work in-camera to create both single exposure and multiple exposure ICMs.  For the more advanced ME ICM technique, Average, Bright, and Dark blend modes are taught, so cameras with these onboard capabilities are recommended for those who wish to learn more about this technique while in Santa Fe.

Through immersion in the creative process and practical application in the field, you are encouraged to see things differently and to reimagine the world around you while creating images that speak to your own personal aesthetic and artistry.  In this way, you learn more about your own unique vision and give voice to your individual creative expression.

There is plenty of instruction, practical application, guidance, and demonstration, where Stephanie takes a very hands-on approach to teaching the basics for single exposure ICMs as well as the in-camera blend modes for multiple exposure ICMs.  She also shares ideas for things to look for in any given setting or situation.  This sets the foundation for you to explore, experiment, and play with the camera when we get into the field and immerse ourselves in the vibrant environment and culture of Santa Fe and its environs.

Each day consists of image review sessions, classroom presentations, and ample time spent creating images in a variety of Santa Fe locations.  At the end of this workshop, you find yourself connecting more deeply to your inner creative landscape, as well as the landscape of the outer world, building magical images that reveal the essence and energy of self and place through a transformative shared experience.

about
Stephanie Johnson

Stephanie Johnson is a self-taught creative photographer, who is primarily focused on Intentional Camera Movement (ICM) and creative photography techniques as a form of artistic expression.  She has honed her skill and evolved her artistry by getting out to ‘do the work’ as often as possible.  She brings an inter-connected, creative, and intuitive approach to her photography-as-art to visually express the essence of light, color, form, line, texture, mood, and emotion through the various in-camera creative techniques of ICM.

Stephanie has a Bachelor of Arts degree and graduate work in English Literature and has always had a very strong emotional connection to art, in all its various forms.  She has a deep passion for creating uniquely artistic images by working with camera movement to reveal the essence of how any given scene feels for her in the moment, and as a creative photographer, she is always seeking to push the boundaries of her own artistry, as well as to encourage and inspire others to do the same by seeing things differently through the artistic lens of ICM, ME ICM, and creative photography techniques.

Stephanie is the Founder, Creator, and Publisher of ICM Photography Magazine (ICMPhotoMag), a first-of-its-kind e-magazine dedicated solely to featuring ICM photography.  Stephanie also leads on-location ICM workshops in the US and the UK in collaboration with various creative photographers through ICMPhotoMag Workshops and, as an instructor for Santa Fe Workshops she leads ICM workshops for SFW both online and on-location in Santa Fe and in Mexico.  She collaborates with various other online learning communities and camera clubs to share her passion, techniques, and knowledge of ICM.  She is also an ICM/creative photography mentor and the founder of the ICMPhotoMag Network continuous learning online community.
