Course Description

Join Adobe Digital Imaging Evangelist Julieanne Kost for a week-long workshop dedicated to the art of compositing in Photoshop. Hosted in Santa Fe Workshops’ Digital Lab, participants experience a blend of inspiration and education as Julieanne shares her creative and technical processes for crafting surreal composites.

In this immersive workshop, you learn best practices for a completely nondestructive workflow, discovering how color, tone, texture, and structure can unify even the most surreal scenes. We explore the crucial roles of light quality and direction, depth of field, reflections, shadows, scale, and perspective in creating a cohesive image. Julieanne guides you in selecting a primary subject, building the stage, and integrating supporting elements to enhance the visual narrative.

Participants learn to master essential compositing tools, including layers, masking, blend modes, adjustment layers, and the properties panel. Learn flexible and efficient ways to organize and manage multiple layers, while exploring nondestructive workflows using Smart Objects and Smart Filters. We explore Photoshop’s AI-powered tools for making selections, including the Object Selection and Remove tools, Select Subject, and the Select and Mask workspace, ensuring your workflow is both efficient and effective. Additionally, you discover when to incorporate Generative Fill and Adobe Firefly into your ideation and creation process.

This workshop is packed with practical tips and techniques tailored for photographers of all levels, empowering you to create images with greater impact. Don’t miss this opportunity to elevate your compositing skills and unleash your creativity with Julieanne as your guide!
