Embark on a journey through time, place, and the deeper roots that shape your art and photography in nature. In this six-week online workshop, we explore the profound connection between the self and the natural world through both an inward and outward lens.
We begin by delving into the wilderness within ourselves, reflecting on the personal motivations behind our art and the stories we seek to tell. Through guided discussion, we create a safe space to explore our creative superpowers, areas for growth, and the boundaries between our personal identities and the art we create. Participants are encouraged to reflect on their body of work, considering their own intentions and the emotional resonance of their visual storytelling.
Next, we turn our gaze outward, exploring the interplay between the timely and the timeless in nature photography. Drawing inspiration from the world’s greatest visual storytellers, we examine the symbols, icons, and themes that have echoed across generations, shaping our collective understanding of the natural world. This leads us to consider how to capture not just fleeting moments, but enduring art that transcends time.
We then move into the field, starting with our immediate surroundings—whether a garden, park, or community space—and gradually expanding to places beyond our comfort zones. From long exposures and night photography to image stacking and creative post-production techniques, we explore the tools that allow us to blur the line between reality and artistry, pushing the boundaries of what our cameras can capture.
Finally, we turn our attention to our human presence and impact within these natural spaces. Conducting an interview and photographing a subject in nature, to better understand who is in front of our lens and creating a meaningful exchange in telling their story. We will discuss techniques and best practices in working with people, organizations, and incorporating human presence in our work.
This course balances artistic reflection with technical guidance, providing each participant with a personalized toolkit to deepen their understanding of their own creative purpose. Through hands-on exercises, constructive critiques, and new experiences, you’ll leave with a renewed sense of artistic direction—and a community of fellow creatives to support you on your journey.

Santa Fe Workshops always aims to produce a high-quality experience for our online attendees. That said, variables including regional and local internet provider speeds, traffic on Zoom's servers, and your own computing hardware can contribute to a less than ideal streaming event. While we do our best to minimize the impact of these variables, they are outside the control of Santa Fe Workshops.

For the convenience of participants, recordings of each class session are posted privately for one month after the end of each session. Santa Fe Workshops takes the recordings down after one month to protect the intellectual property of our instructors.
