Course Description

Would you like to show your photographic talent and images to the world, but the process of submitting to a competition, festival, or gallery just feels too confusing and intimidating? Or have you submitted your photographs to various contests, only to get rejected at every turn? If the answer is “yes,” then photographer Sonia Goydenko is willing to help!

In this two-week immersive online workshop, Sonia initially reviews the opportunities in the three arenas most photographers choose to get their work seen—competitions, festivals, and galleries. She offers guidance and tools for finding the competitions that best suit your work, to researching judges’ preferences and recognizing that a successful submission is more than merely sending in your favorite images. Sonia demystifies the various application processes guiding you to use best practices as well as how give yourself the best opportunity for success.

Over the course of two Saturdays, each participant receives hands-on advice and constructive criticism on your personal work, focusing on the strengths of the images; how to determine goals for submitting photographs to a competition or festival; which are worth investing in; and how to get your work into galleries. A special guest photography speaker, with decades of experience co-running a gallery, selling photographs, and creating photo books, joins us to share valuable insights.

Participating in competitions and festivals as well as exhibiting in group shows or a solo exhibition are all great ways to grow as a photographer, gage your place in a certain photographic community, challenge yourself, build your photographic resume, and ultimately get your work seen by esteemed judges, all influencers and leaders in the industry. Join Sonia for two fun and informative Saturdays in March to learn the best ways to Get Seen.
