Course Description

Who doesn’t love a walk in the garden? There is something so refreshing about being surrounded by colorful blossoms and lush greenery, and thanks to our convenient and ever-ready iPhones, it’s never been easier to document their beauty and tranquility. The aptly named Susan Bloom begins this workshop by outlining the resources and equipment necessary for getting the most from your iPhone, paying special attention to portrait mode and live mode.

We cover subjects such as composition, focus, and RAW files, examining macro photography and purposeful movement during exposure. In the digital darkroom, we tweak our images using the native iPhone app (as well as a selection of carefully curated third-party apps), experimenting with techniques and approaches that elevate the creativity of our images—from filters and gels to textures and beyond.

As we bring flowers indoors to assemble still lifes, you are given the chance to explore collaging techniques, including multiple layers, blending modes, and masking. Finally, we address the archiving and storage of our images, learning how to build a secure and accessible digital library.

Discover how the iPhone can facilitate uniquely personal interpretations of floral beauty as you gain artistic insight, skill, and confidence.
