The Travel Portfolio as a Zine

with Jennifer Spelman

June 5 – 23, 2025

Thursdays and Mondays; 9:30 – 11:30 am (Mountain Time)
  • Tuition $645.00

Course Description

Our travel stories are already there, hiding in our hard drives. Moments recorded and waiting to be shaped into a thoughtful portfolio of images celebrating our international adventures. Join Jennifer Spelman to uncover your photographs from past journeys and polish them into a project ready to share.

Now is the perfect time to re-open these images and bring them to life in a supportive environment of photographers who are passionate about traveling with a camera. There is magic in community. Editing and sequencing tasks that seem overwhelming on our own become fun when shared together. The group meets online twice weekly for lively conversations and reviews of individual projects. Jennifer shares ideas on the art of creating a compelling visual story as the group explores how to craft a careful sequence of images. The energy from collaboratively brainstorming and shared feedback ensures that this virtual visit back to past adventures is a fun one.

The goal of The Travel Portfolio as a Zine is for each participant to create a unique project comprised of fifteen to twenty thoughtfully sequenced images. This collection of images is then designed into a PDF layout for a Blurb Premium Magazine—better known today as a “Zine.” These moderately-priced but beautifully printed, magazine-style format pieces are printed digitally and on-demand. Jennifer has found Zines to be the perfect format to self-publish pictures and stories that celebrate your adventures and connections to other cultures.
