Course Description

Do you aspire to create portraits that convey a message and tell a story? In this two-part online presentation, award-winning photographer, set designer, and filmmaker Adrien Broom shares insights, techniques, and secrets for developing and executing a strong concept for a portrait.

With her guidance, participants discover the visual elements necessary for creating impactful and memorable images that leave a lasting impression on viewers. You learn how to work with models and collaborators, direct emotions, and create a comfortable and collaborative environment to bring your vision to life.

Adrien’s lectures go far beyond technical instruction. Drawing upon her diverse background in fine and decorative arts, she also shares her personal journey, highlighting the development of her signature style for creating intricate, handcrafted sets that transport viewers to fantastical realms without the use of computer-generated imagery. Adrien Broom

Adrien Broom is a photographer, set designer, and filmmaker with a fascination for surrealist and fantastical art. Her award-winning work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions all over the world, at venues including the Hudson River Museum in Yonkers, New York; the Southern Vermont Arts Center in Manchester, Vermont; the Edward Hopper Museum in Nyack, New York; and the Centro di Cultura Contemporanea in Florence, Italy. In addition to earning a BA in Computer Animation from Northeastern University, Adrien studied fine art in Florence and London. Her exhibition, A Colorful Dream, is touring North America from 2023 to 2025.
