Course Description

The best camera is the one you have with you, and most of the time, that’s your phone. In this new online program, photographer and filmmaker Aundre Larrow shares his approach to creating compelling portraits using an Apple iPhone.

Whether you are new to photography or already experienced behind the camera, over two evening sessions, you explore ways to make the most of the tools already in your pocket, helping you create polished, expressive images with greater clarity, confidence, and creative intention.

Aundre walks through essential camera settings, features, and apps that expand what is possible with iPhone photography. He demonstrates practical approaches to light, composition, color, and framing, along with techniques for directing subjects and capturing authentic moments. The focus is not only on making sharp images, but on creating portraits that feel thoughtful, dynamic, and alive.

The program also introduces mobile editing apps and simple workflows that take an image from capture to final share. Throughout the sessions, Aundre shares insights from his widely recognized #shotoniphone projects, including films like Float and Mud, offering a behind-the-scenes look at how he approaches storytelling and portraiture with a mobile device.

Both sessions are primarily lecture and demonstration-based. Between these two group sessions, participants are invited to complete an assignment designed to help put Andre’s ideas into practice. Whether you are photographing for social media, personal projects, or creative exploration, this program broadens how you think about the camera you carry every day. By the end of the course, you see your iPhone not as a limitation, but as a flexible tool for creating thoughtful portraits anytime, anywhere.
