Course Description

Ready to bend your vision and turn the ordinary into something extraordinary? Let April Milani take you on a trip down the rabbit hole of in-camera storytelling with this introduction to the world of Lensbaby lenses and optics. All skill levels are welcome, and ability to photograph in manual mode is helpful but not mandatory.

No Lensbaby gear? No worries! Participants are given access to a variety of Lensbaby lenses and optics. As you try your hand with these new tools, April illuminates all the technical ins and outs, ensuring that you feel confident each step of the way.

Those who aren’t interested in using manual lenses have the option to learn about the ever-popular OMNI filter system, which allows us to create an explosion of light and color, all in camera. Participants are also given DIY creative survival kits and guided through an afternoon’s worth of tips for crafting their own lens proxies.

After we’ve familiarized ourselves with our new tools, we set out to discover all the beauty Santa Fe has to offer. Throughout, we explore ways of employing selective focus to tell our subjects’ unique stories.

Join April for a journey deep into the creative realm of photography and discover a place where inspiration is always waiting.

about
April Milani

April Milani’s love of the photographic image began with a Polaroid camera in the kitchen of her grandmother, who told her, “You only get one shot, so make it count.” April studied black-and-white photography in college but temporarily put aside the practice as a young adult, until motherhood inspired her to pick up a camera again. After completing a course at the New York Institute of Photography, she went on to immerse herself thoroughly in the medium. April is a believer in facing one’s fears, and her strong sense of curiosity continues to propel her forward creatively.
