Course Description

Take ICM to the next level by combining it with multiple exposures to achieve wonderfully abstract works of art. Focus on light, color, contrast, line, pattern, and texture to create images that are expressive and distinctive. Work intentionally with a camera to explore how all these elements blend beautifully together with multiple exposure ICMs.

In this three-week online workshop, Stephanie Johnson demonstrates how she works with the camera to create ME ICMs. She shares images that reveal the fantastical worlds that can be created with this advanced ICM technique and reviews how they were made. The passion, knowledge, experience, and thought processes Stephanie imparts inspire you to see things differently, to push the boundaries, and to tap more fully into your own inner creative self.

In-camera blend modes and multiple exposure options are discussed and demonstrated, as well as ideas for the best conditions and subjects to look for in a variety of natural landscapes and urban settings. This sets the foundation for exploration and creative expression with the camera, and each session ends with an assignment for you to do just that—explore, experiment, and play with the camera. Feedback on your images is an important aspect of this workshop.

A post-processing overview covering blending multiple exposures in Adobe Photoshop is included for those interested and for those whose cameras cannot create ME ICMs in-camera; however, this workshop is more about creating images in-camera and using post-processing as a finishing tool, rather than about creating images in post-processing.

The real magic happens when you are able to see the results of the creative process in the field. Honing the ability to create ME ICMs in-camera enables you to see the work unfolding and then make adjustments to actively craft your images in real time.

Stephanie is a passionate advocate for encouraging others to find their unique creative vision. In this workshop—through a combination of lecture, demonstration, and live feedback—she inspires you to take your art to new heights.
