with Nathan Bett

December 6 – 18, 2024

Course Description

“Know your gear” is an often-heard mantra in photography. Because of the tech-heavy nature of the medium, mastery of the tools is essential for realizing your creative vision. It’s easy to find yourself confused and overwhelmed by the many features of today’s very sophisticated digital cameras. Our popular Camera Series of short online workshops helps you overcome your technical difficulties, leading to artistic prowess.

In this online workshop, Nathan Bett, a former Canon Camera Educator and New York Regional Tech Rep who helped Canon launch the new EOS R System nationally by providing training to camera retailers across the country in the EOS R System, provides you the expert guidance to improve your skillset and knowledge with Canon’s EOS R mirrorless system. We dive into the many features that make these mirrorless cameras so great for so many photographers and highlight the new advances in RF lens technology.

In four group sessions spread over two weeks, this tech-centric workshop covers a wide range of topics including a thorough review of all the basic user settings and menus for stills and video; customizing the camera to suit your personal needs; and getting creative with picture styles, multiple exposures, HDR mode, and focus bracketing.

Additionally, Nathan covers camera 5-axis In Body Image Stabilizer (IBIS) and lens Image Stabilization (IS); choosing and using auto-focus lenses in different scenarios, RF mount technology; and using in-camera Wi-Fi and Bluetooth to connect to smartphones and tablets using the Canon Camera Connect app.

This workshop spans two weeks, so you have time to test out the concepts you learn in class and time to do a little homework. Yes, there is homework! But don’t worry, the homework is fun and designed to help fortify everything you learned during the workshop’s group sessions.

Getting the most from your Canon’s EOS R camera system is the goal of this hands-on workshop, which is limited to 14 participants. If you are new to mirrorless technology or someone interested in picking up a camera again after a few years away, Nathan welcomes you to this in-depth look at the camera’s features.
