Course Description

You’ve already spent time and effort internalizing the rules that make up the world of photography. Now it’s time to learn how to break them effectively. April Milani shares a new paradigm that shifts your thinking and allows you to create images that step just outside of reality.

To tap into our five senses, we ask ourselves what and who we are. (Dig deep—your imagination is the key to unlocking your full potential!) By embarking on personal projects and self-portraits, we get in touch with our creative essence, including the colors that represent us best.

We go beyond the rule of thirds to bring an unexpected dimension to our photographic compositions. Then we ask what we would do if the lights went out. Would we be content to simply not create? Or would we forge a path through the darkness? April helps us explore unconventional lighting options so we are never left in the dark again.

As you begin to listen within, your visual voice evolves to the point where you can look past the known to see the unknown and take a photo in your mind before even picking up a camera. Join April for a journey of discovery to find freedom and possibility in the “new un-normal.”

about
April Milani

April Milani’s love of the photographic image began with a Polaroid camera in the kitchen of her grandmother, who told her, “You only get one shot, so make it count.” April studied black-and-white photography in college but temporarily put aside the practice as a young adult, until motherhood inspired her to pick up a camera again. After completing a course at the New York Institute of Photography, she went on to immerse herself thoroughly in the medium. April is a believer in facing one’s fears, and her strong sense of curiosity continues to propel her forward creatively.
