Visual Journalists are held to a standard of ethics based around the truthful and faithful representation of images they capture, as well as the presentation of their work to the public. Santa Fe Workshops’ collection of free online events, Creativity Continues features a special evening with Fred Ritchin and Andrea Wise to discuss ethics and the shifting landscape in visual journalism.

During this revealing conversation, moderator Jenn Poggi with The Kalish Workshop, and presenters Fred and Andrea discuss the foundational standard of ethics and share their thoughts on how this framework continues to evolve as the world of journalism changes and practical factors like technology influence visual journalists’ work. This conversation also focuses on the shift in how communities receive and value challenging imagery, and how these changing attitudes influence ethical debates and norms. Finally, Jenn, Fred, and Andrea discuss how a new generation of storytellers is shaping this debate, and share their thoughts on the future trajectory of photojournalistic ethics.

Creativity Continues is a way to connect, encouraging expression, and is a collective way to develop creative voices. The goal is to engage all within our creative community. We encourage extending invitations and sharing Santa Fe Workshops Creativity Continues events with any who express an interest.
