Course Description

New Mexico is absolutely magical, photographically and otherwise. Come join Jean “Gino” Miele, who recently relocated from Brooklyn to Santa Fe, for a week of new friends, new images, and to take the next step in perfecting your Lightroom skills to craft a digital print that looks like what you see on your monitor.

Wedged in between the holidays, early December is a perfect time to visit Santa Fe. The city is quiet, and the surrounding landscape remains breathtakingly beautiful. There is ample time to make new photographs in the lovely first light of day before class. A couple of afternoons class finishes in time to photograph the golden light around sunset.

This hands-on workshop provides a step-by-step workflow for color and black-and-white inkjet printing with Epson printers. The techniques Gino teaches provide you with access to consistent, predictable, and repeatable printing results. Equally important, you learn to transform your RAW files into photographs that “sing.” Discover the best practices for developing and optimizing your RAW files for print (including Lightroom’s powerful local-adjustment tools), and printing from Lightroom.

Our week together integrates making new images, improving your Lightroom skills, and then printing newly optimized files in The Workshops state-of-the-art Digital Lab. Gino offers an encouraging environment, knowledgeable instruction, and the individual attention you need to take your work to the next level. Join Gino and learn everything you need to know to take the guesswork out of making museum-quality inkjet prints.

about
Jean Miele

Jean “Gino” Miele’s photographs explore the borderlands between fiction and reality, and reflect his lifelong interest in perception, spirituality, and mysticism. His images remind us that moments of perfection are possible, and that we create our own reality. He believes every photograph is an act of transformation, and that the photographs we make tell us more about ourselves than about what was in front of the lens.

Gino’s photographs have appeared in thousands of publications. His artwork has been exhibited internationally and acquired by collectors worldwide. Gino has taught at Santa Fe Workshops since 2003. His primary goals are to demystify digital technique and empower students to realize their own photographic vision.
