We all return from our travels with hundreds of photographs of food, faces, and fleeting moments that often end up sitting on our phones or hard drives. But what if you could do more with those images and the stories behind them?
This new six-session online workshop with photographer and writer Liza Gershman moves beyond taking travel photos. It’s about shaping your travel experiences into stories that resonate through both images and words.
This course begins by exploring what makes a story meaningful: curiosity, emotion, and thoughtful detail. From there, you choose a trip or experience to focus on and start building a narrative. Through weekly lectures, assignments, and thoughtful image reviews, you organize your photos, refine your writing, and explore how they work together to express a sense of place.
Each session adds a new layer to your storytelling. Portraits and the people behind them foster emotional connection. Small moments—textures, food, gestures—bring scenes to life, creating a rich narrative. Through curated readings and writing prompts, your own voice becomes clearer with each step. Throughout the workshop, you write and edit with intention. One-on-one check-ins with Liza offer personal support, and the online group provides space to share work and get feedback from others.
By our final session, your story comes together—sequenced images and original writing that reflect where you’ve been, what you’ve seen, and how it made you feel. Whether you choose to share it or keep it for yourself, it’s a lasting record of your journey, told in your own voice.
Participants need to be technically self-sufficient, as this is not a workshop to learn how to use your gear or editing software. Participants must be able to download, select, and submit images for class each day.
Class will meet 5:30 – 7:30 pm (Mountain Time) on Wednesdays starting September 17 and ending October 22 (six online group sessions). Enrollment is limited to 12 participants.
Zoom Video Conferencing software (available for no charge from Zoom.com) will be used to facilitate the class sessions. Further details will be emailed to registrants.
Santa Fe Workshops always aims to produce a high-quality experience for our online attendees. That said, variables including regional and local internet provider speeds, traffic on Zoom's servers, and your own computing hardware can contribute to a less than ideal streaming event. While we do our best to minimize the impact of these variables, they are outside the control of Santa Fe Workshops.

For the convenience of participants, recordings of each class session are posted privately for one month after the end of each session. Santa Fe Workshops takes the recordings down after one month to protect the intellectual property of our instructors.
