Shaping Your Work for Exhibition

with Frances Jakubek

March 24 – April 28, 2026

Tuesdays; 4:00 – 6:00 pm (Mountain Time)
  • Tuition $595.00

Course Description

Shaping a body of work into a compelling exhibition proposal is both an artistic and strategic process, requiring attention to image selection, sequencing, layout, and written presentation to communicate your vision clearly. In this new online workshop, you work with Frances Jakubek, an image-maker, independent curator, and consultant for artists, to translate your ideas into a cohesive exhibition proposal, producing both the images and supporting materials needed to bring your work into public view.

Over five sessions, you explore the essential components of a successful proposal: refining and sequencing images, developing layouts and installation strategies, and crafting written materials that convey the heart of your project. Frances also addresses the practical considerations of exhibitions, covering framing, shipping, timelines, and budgets so you can present your work confidently and professionally.

Writing and presentation become central tools as you craft an artist statement, project description, and cohesive visual selection that speak to curators, galleries, and institutions. Weekly discussions and critiques foster a supportive environment where ideas deepen, editing becomes sharper, and your vision for the work grows more defined.

By the end of the course, you complete a polished exhibition proposal package that brings together your images, writing, and logistical plan. An integrated, professional portfolio ready to submit. This workshop is ideal for artists eager to see their work in exhibition spaces and prepared to develop the materials that make those opportunities possible.

What You Should Know:

Participants need to be technically self-sufficient, as this is not a workshop to learn how to use your gear or editing software. Participants must be able to download, select, and submit images / documents for class.

Special Notes:

Class will meet 4:00 – 6:00 pm (Mountain Time) on Tuesdays starting March 24 and ending April 28 (six online group sessions). Enrollment is limited to 12 participants.

Zoom Video Conferencing software (available for no charge from Zoom.com) will be used to facilitate the class sessions. Further details will be emailed to registrants.

Santa Fe Workshops always aims to produce a high-quality experience for our online attendees. That said, variables including regional and local internet provider speeds, traffic on Zoom's servers, and your own computing hardware can contribute to a less than ideal streaming event. While we do our best to minimize the impact of these variables, they are outside the control of Santa Fe Workshops.

Policies:

View Withdrawal and Transfer Policies for online programs.

For the convenience of participants, recordings of each class session are posted privately for one month after the end of each session. Santa Fe Workshops takes the recordings down after one month to protect the intellectual property of our instructors.
