Beyond the Frame: The Business Side of Photojournalism

with Marie Monteleone

February 7, 2026

Saturday; 10:00 am – 2:00 pm (Mountain Time)
  • Tuition $125.00

Course Description

Getting hired as a photojournalist takes more than powerful images—it takes strategy, communication, and a solid understanding of the industry.

Marie A. Monteleone, senior photo editor at Bloomberg News, brings real-world experience to this four-hour online seminar for emerging and mid-career photojournalists ready to sharpen their professional edge and navigate the business side of visual storytelling.

Beyond the Frame delivers practical strategies for building a strong online presence, forming meaningful industry connections, and communicating effectively with editors and publications. The course covers the dos and don’ts of reaching out to photo editors, techniques for crafting standout pitches, and—most critically—ways to turn a one-time assignment into a lasting professional relationship.

Through behind-the-scenes access to actual assignments, Marie offers an inside look at the editorial decision-making process—from initial contact and image selection to follow-up. This seminar equips photographers with the insight and tools to move forward with clarity, confidence, and professionalism.
