The natural world around you, from your backyard to nearby parks and local nature trails, becomes your classroom. During this online workshop, you explore the rich details and quiet drama of wildlife and plant life close to home, from the patterns on a dragonfly’s wings to a warbler in flight and the subtle unfolding of flower petals. Over six-sessions you are invited to slow down, look closely, and discover the beauty that’s already within reach.
Led by Nikon Ambassador Kristi Odom, the workshop focuses on using macro and telephoto techniques to photograph bugs, birds, and plants in ways that reflect your own visual voice. You learn how to make the most of your camera through practical techniques and creative approaches, all without needing to travel far. The emphasis is on observation, intention, and translating what catches your attention into compelling images.
Each session begins with a lecture from Kristi, where you gain new tools, technical insights, and inspiration. You then take part in group critiques, sharing your work and receiving thoughtful feedback that helps refine both your vision and your skills. At the end of each class, Kristi gives you an assignment to complete before the next session.
Through practice, creative challenges, and supportive discussion, you strengthen your technical confidence and deepen your connection to the natural world. By the end of the workshop, you leave with sharper camera skills, a more intentional approach to photographing nature, and a renewed sense of curiosity for the wildlife that surrounds you every day.

Santa Fe Workshops always aims to produce a high-quality experience for our online attendees. That said, variables including regional and local internet provider speeds, traffic on Zoom's servers, and your own computing hardware can contribute to a less than ideal streaming event. While we do our best to minimize the impact of these variables, they are outside the control of Santa Fe Workshops.

For the convenience of participants, recordings of each class session are posted privately for one month after the end of each session. Santa Fe Workshops takes the recordings down after one month to protect the intellectual property of our instructors.
