Course Description
Have you always wanted to learn advanced compositing techniques but felt unprepared for the skill level required? Established photographer and instructor Zach Taylor designed this course as a feeder for other Adobe Photoshop workshops, and in it he lays the foundation for beginning Photoshop users to become familiar with the tools needed to produce composite imagery.
With two years’ experience teaching basic Photoshop methods, Zach knows the program inside and out. Over the span of five days, he guides you through the basics of Photoshop and the art of composite making, starting from the beginning with layers and blend modes and moving slowly through masking and Smart Objects.
From our home base in The Workshops state-of-the-art Digital Lab, participants have access to Apple computers and NEC color-corrected monitors. Our time together includes demonstrations of techniques, opportunities to work on your own imagery, and planned field trips where you are given ample chances to add to your photo compositing archive.
By the week’s end, you have the confidence to make simple composite works and create the digital art that currently lives only in your imagination, as well as the skills to take courses from The Workshops’ higher-level instructors.

Participants with basic Photoshop skills will benefit most from this workshop.
For the convenience of participants, recordings of each class session are posted privately for one month after the end of each session. Santa Fe Workshops takes the recordings down after one month to protect the intellectual property of our instructors.

Zach Taylor has spent over ten years working as a digital artist. Exploring a number of topics surrounding the mundane, his work is humorous yet powerful in its willingness to discuss the taboo of human nature. As of late, he has become an apprentice to a neon artist and is pushing his work into the world of installation.
Previously employed as the Digital Lab and Online Learning Manager at SFW, he has had extensive training and education from a number of artists and educators. With years of experience teaching, he strives to push the boundaries of how others create within the medium of photography.
