Course Description

Nightfall transforms San Miguel de Allende. During a magical period that begins at dusk and lasts until dawn, this world-class city is dynamically alive with the color and mood of nightlife.

San Miguel’s compelling after-hours activity is the subject of a new workshop led by esteemed photographer Sam Abell. Designed for advanced photographers comfortable working in cultures other than their own, it offers participants a unique opportunity to continue creating images after the sun sets and the light of night takes over.

Working alone or in small groups, we go behind the scenes to capture the intimacy and color of San Miguel’s renowned nocturnal life, both social and cultural, paying extra attention to the ways in which daytime activities are made possible by workers of the night. Throughout, participants meet individually and as a group with Sam for regular editing sessions, reviews of photographs, and constructive critiques.

By traversing San Miguel and engaging in its multifaceted nightlife, we produce pieces that reveal a fresh perspective on the authenticity of this fascinating ancient city and its inhabitants.
