Course Description

Two of the most scenic and dynamic landscapes of the American West are White Sands National Monument and Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge. In this combination field/lab workshop, you are inspired and challenged to capture the drama and beauty of two remarkable and very different landscapes.

Our adventure begins Thursday evening in Alamogordo, New Mexico. We spend Friday and Saturday mornings immersed in the wave-like dunes of white gypsum sand, rising from the floor of the Tularosa Basin at the northern end of the Chihuahaun Desert.

Saturday afternoon we depart White Sands for Socorro, New Mexico and Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge surrounded by lush wetlands and migratory birds including Sand Hill Cranes, Snow Geese, and hundreds of other species. In addition, the Bosque is home to many other wildlife species including bobcats, mountain lion, javelina, deer, elk, and the list goes on. We photograph in the Bosque Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.

Photographing these two unique landscapes is both a technical and creative challenge. Each day Tony shares tips and techniques to help you realize your creative vision. Sunday afternoon, we depart Socorro and enjoy a leisurely drive to Santa Fe.

Monday and Tuesday are spent in the Workshops state-of-art Digital Lab to process and print a few of our images. Tony reviews, discusses, and guides your image processing workflow, placing special emphasis on color management and archival digital printing using both Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom Classic.

This workshop is designed to enhance your understanding of the photographic process, from capture to output. Tony shares the in-depth knowledge he gained from his 25-year career as a professional photographer and master printer. Lengthy days in the field photographing the scenic beauty and drama of White Sands and Bosque del Apache, then seeing your work come to life in the printed form, provide an invigorating and well-rounded photographic experience.
