Sacred Spaces with Linda Connor and Anne Kelly

Santa Fe Workshops collection of free online events, Creativity Continues, features a special spring evening with renown fine-art photographer Linda Connor in conversation with art advocate Anne Kelly. Their upcoming conversation focuses on Linda’s extensive travels to sacred spaces, the art of using an 8×10 camera, and the importance of mentorship in art making and education.

On March 6, Linda shares her photographs and discusses her experiences traveling to unique locations, including her recent photographic endeavors in the Himalayas. She reflects on the distinct challenges and inspirations that arise when working in such profound and remote environments, and the significance of large-format photography in capturing intricate details and expansive landscapes, fostering an appreciation for the analog art form.  Of the creative outcomes of these sacred journeys, Linda says, “above all, I’m interested in the power of imagery—in how a medium as factual as photography can evoke responses on the border between the world we know and the one we can’t.”

Linda also shares first-hand accounts of the rise of West Coast photography and the vital role she played as an artist and educator at the San Francisco Art Institute and the founder of the San Francisco PhotoAlliance. Looking back at her decades teaching at the Art Institute, she examines how mentorship has shaped the experiences of both students and teachers, fostering a vibrant artistic community that continues to influence the photography scene in the Bay Area today.
