The great color photographer Ernst Haas once said, “Color is joy. One does not think joy. One is carried by it.” Ernst was an early mentor and then a lifelong friend to color photographer Arthur Meyerson, who continues to take inspiration from Ernst’s profound words and poetic images to master the use of color in his image-making.
Arthur’s renowned workshop, The Color of Light, is designed for passionate photographers who want to strengthen their ability to see and work in color. Through daily photographic assignments, image reviews, and group discussions, you acquire techniques and “tools” that enhance your perception of light and its effects on color, composition, texture, pattern, and design. While covering the use and quality of natural light, we primarily focus on investigating color from a personal perspective. Throughout the week, Arthur’s goal is to guide and inspire you by shaping and refining your individual ways of seeing.
San Miguel de Allende is a virtual explosion of brilliant hues, making it a spectacular setting for more deeply exploring color photography. Taking advantage of the stunning light and color that abounds in this colonial gem, Arthur’s workshop addresses the aesthetics and techniques of color photography and then mastering your ability to truly see color. The week begins with a review of your images and setting personal goals. Daily field sessions in and around San Miguel put classroom techniques into practice. You leave this inspiring and fun week with a greater awareness of your strengths as a creative photographer and an enhanced sensitivity to light and color.
Arthur has taught workshops for over 20 years and in San Miguel de Allende for the past 12 years. He invites you to join him in one of his all-time favorite travel destinations for a deep investigation into the nuances of color and light for photographers.
