Alumni of Birds, Bugs, and Plants: Macro and Telephoto Photography in Your Backyard are invited to continue your exploration of photographic techniques for turning backyard photography into fine art. When science merges with photography, all sorts of possibilities open up, and Nikon Ambassador Kristi Odom is uniquely qualified to share techniques that allow you to bring more voice, expression, and emotion—not to mention narrative—into your images.
A big part of visual storytelling is setting a scene, and Kristi offers tips and tricks for creating unique landscapes, from daytime long exposures to image stacking. As we experiment with workflow and post-processing techniques, you learn how to get creative with Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop and use those programs to enhance the narrative element of your work.
The world is always moving. How do you incorporate that movement into a still image? We look at ways to make movement part of our narrative, including capturing and editing time-lapse videos. Whether you are photographing a subject that's moving, a plant in the midst of growing, or the changing sky over a landscape, time-lapse is an unrivaled tool for sharing the temporal beauty of nature.
Spend five two-hour sessions taking your technical and interpretive skills to the next level and come away with images that offer viewers a rich and rewarding understanding of nature. We also enjoy a final class show to bring our time together to closure.
Working knowledge of digital workflow and manual mode on your digital SLR or mirrorless camera. Participants must be able to download and select images using image editing software for class sessions.

Santa Fe Workshops always aims to produce a high-quality experience for our online attendees. That said, variables including regional and local internet provider speeds, traffic on Zoom's servers, and your own computing hardware can contribute to a less than ideal streaming event. While we do our best to minimize the impact of these variables, they are outside the control of Santa Fe Workshops.
Please Note: During the online registration process you will be asked about housing and meals. Answer no to both questions.

For the convenience of participants, recordings of each class session are posted privately for two weeks after the end of each session. Santa Fe Workshops takes the recordings down after two weeks to protect the intellectual property of our instructors.
