Course Description

The flow of a woman’s form is nowhere more beautiful than when matched with the curves of mother earth. In this workshop, world-renowned photographer, author, and educator Laurie Klein and author and post-processing instructor Shelley Vandegrift guide you through the art of photographing women in the landscape and using post-processing techniques to enhance the depth of the story.

Monday through Thursday, we photograph our female models in a variety of inspiring landscape settings. Here we concentrate on pre-visualizing, posing, and relationship-building with the models. Laurie guides you in capturing the vulnerability of your subjects in the natural world and then assists you in identifying and developing your own authentic personal style. Throughout the week, Shelley teaches various post-processing techniques and how to use them in expressing your artistic vision.

During our lively week together, each participant receives one-on-one mentoring time with Laurie, while individual time with Shelley focuses on the more technical aspects. Classroom sessions are devoted to group discussions and helpful image reviews. This workshop is for all styles of photography: black and white, infrared, and color.

Join Laurie and Shelley in the breathtaking scenery of New Mexico to explore the art of the feminine.

Laurie has been teaching for more than 30 years, and her work has appeared in hundreds of publications and numerous gallery exhibitions She is author of two infrared photography books published by Amherst Media: Photographing the Female Form with Digital Infrared and Infrared Photography and Artistic Techniques for Brilliant Images, co-authored with her son Kyle Klein and Shelley Vandegrift. about
Shelley Vandegrift

Shelley Vandegrift fell under the spell of photography as a 10-year-old child, carefully watching and learning in her father’s darkroom. From that point forward, the technical components of the post-production process held as much attraction for her as the creative experience behind the lens. With the introduction of digital photography, she found a marriage between her two passions: photography and computer technology. She shares that passion both in her photographic art and in workshops and webinars globally.

Her teaching focuses primarily on two areas: artistic post-processing techniques and infrared photography. Shelley possesses a knack for taking post-processing techniques and making them accessible to all. In conjunction with her artistic mentor and friend, Laurie Klein, she guides photographers in achieving their own artistic vision through the magic of post-processing and discovering the skills they need to craft their stories.

Shelley is co-author with Laurie Klein of Infrared Photography: Digital Techniques for Artistic Images, 2nd Edition from Amherst Publishing. She is the designer and developer of Infrared Mastery presets for Luminar and Lightroom, and has been a guest lecturer/presenter for Skylum and DxO software.  Her work has been featured in the two-woman exhibit, The Beauty of Invisible Light, at the Commons Gallery and in B&W Magazine, A. Smith Gallery, the Latino Cultural Center of Dallas, Dallas City Hall, Lucas Gallery, and the Art Travelers Gallery at Dallas’s Love Field airport.
