Course Description

Home has much more to do with a piece of soul than a piece of soil. — Pico Iyer

We are still homebound, but now there is hope of moving outside the confines of our physical homes. Vaccines and plunging infection rates offer some medical relief, but also emotional liberation. The rebirth that is springtime lies just ahead, and with it the promise of new horizons. What will our future look like? How has the past year changed us? We are still facing unanswered questions, but we know creativity will help us approach the times ahead with a certain grace and clarity.

Homescapes: The Next Step offers alumni of Reid’s Homescapes: A New Paradigm the opportunity to explore the idea of home as something internal and a part of you wherever you are. Home is a set of values you carry with you. Home lies in the songs and books and friends and family that make up your daily lives. While engaging in a creative process is sometimes a solitary pursuit, we are lucky enough to share this unfolding experience together. This online workshop is a collaborative experience that reimagines home through a photographic lens.

Just as in the first Homescapes workshop, Reid helps you build confidence and boost your photographic intelligence. He has new illustrated lectures that reveal what he has learned from ten accomplished but little-known photographers. He gives a new set of photographic assignments at the end of each group session and reviews the resulting images the following class. And as a special treat, he welcomes two guest photographers to share their visions and insights of home.

Join Reid and a small group of Homescapers to take the next step on your photographic journey to find a home you are never far away from.

Santa Fe Workshops always aims to produce a high-quality experience for our online attendees. That said, variables including regional and local internet provider speeds, traffic on Zoom's servers, and your own computing hardware can contribute to a less than ideal streaming event. While we do our best to minimize the impact of these variables, they are outside the control of Santa Fe Workshops.

For the convenience of participants, recordings of each class session are posted privately for one month after the end of each session. Santa Fe Workshops takes the recordings down after one month to protect the intellectual property of our instructors.

Earlier this month I made sure to find time for the Homescapes online photography course with Reid Callanan at Santa Fe Workshops. It powerfully redefined how I look at our house, our family, and myself. The core message was the power of “hidden wholeness” in everyday life, including one’s home.

I continue to be grateful for the online Homescapes class and the creative outlet it secured for me. I’m not sure how I would have weathered the last several months without that. I think creative work might be the only way to stay sane during these times!
