Santa Fe Workshops collection of free online events, Creativity Continues, features a special evening with photographers Sheila Metzner and John Paul Caponigro. An icon in both fashion and fine-art photography, Sheila creates ageless portraits, still lifes, and landscapes. Her images offer captivating sensual experiences and are marked by their muted colors, soft focus, and rich textural grain. Both timeless and contemporary, echoing other art forms, Sheila’s photographs have become a part of and are haunted by the history of photography.
Sheila’s unique style blends aspects of Pictorialism and Modernism to forge an aesthetic that not only stands out in the history of the medium, but became closely associated with the best of 1980s fashion, beauty, and decorative arts trends. She created commercial photography for Vogue, Elizabeth Arden, Perry Ellis, Shiseido, Saks Fifth Avenue, Paloma Picasso, Victoria’s Secret, Levi’s, and Ralph Lauren, as well as publishing four monographs.
Our hour of inspiration begins with a brief tour of Sheila’s images, then she and John Paul will discuss how time unfolds in still images and intermingles with our other senses – it may even be a sixth sense. Sheila and John Paul end their conversation with a lively Q & A session with the webinar audience. Even if you can’t make the live event, a recording of it will be available for all those registered.
