Santa Fe Workshops collection of free online events, Creativity Continues, features a special evening this fall with photography historian and curator, Dr. Rebecca Senf, who discusses legendary photographer Rodney Smith’s technical approach to making his thoughtful, timeless, and whimsical images. Additionally, Santa Fe Workshops Director, Reid Callanan, joins Rebecca to speak about how Smith worked in, wrote about, and taught photography that led to his leaving an impactful legacy. Rodney was a frequent and much-admired instructor at Santa Fe Workshops.

Rebecca is chief curator at the Center for Creative Photography at the University of Arizona, in Tucson where she has curated exhibitions on Ansel Adams, W. Eugene Smith, Mark Klett, Edward Weston, Barbara Bosworth, Alanna Airitam, Betsy Schneider, and Stephen Marc. Her exhibition “Richard Avedon: Relationships” is currently on view at the Galleria d’Arte Moderna in Palermo, Italy through July 30th. In 2020 she published Making a Photographer: The Early Work of Ansel Adams with the CCP and Yale University Press. She contributed an essay about Rodney Smith’s practice and technique to the new Getty publication, Leap of Faith.

At the end of this inspiring presentation on Rodney Smith, Rebecca and Reid take questions from the webinar audience. Even if you can’t make the live event, a recording of it will be available for all those registered.

Creativity Continues is a program that collectively develops creative voices by offering connection and encouraging expression. Because the goal is to engage all within our creative community, we encourage you to extend invitations and share Santa Fe Workshops Creativity Continues events with anyone who expresses an interest.
