Santa Fe Workshops collection of free online events, Creativity Continues, features a special evening with photographic artist Frank Ockenfels 3.
Over the years, Frank’s work has illustrated a range of different concepts, making visible the back-and-forth of ideas that play continuously in his mind. He treats photography as a base for his one-of-a-kind abstract images, altering them through in-camera manipulation or using light to create distortion. After they are printed, Frank further alters those images, drawing on them with different mediums and incorporating them into journals or collage.
He shares these techniques, and others, to help fellow artists explore deeply personal questions—of form, content, or both—and resolve them in innovative (and equally personal) ways. The night concludes with a lively question-and-answer session with Frank and the attendees.
As a highly visual, astute, and rapid observer of the world around him, Frank takes an abundance of images that serve as artistic stimuli for his creative mind. A process of collision, collusion, and collaboration is the genesis of his creativity, leading to the transformation of a photographic image into something else, a “re-presentation” of what he saw through the lens. It becomes a new form that communicates a new message and a new meaning—often conveying a more powerfully emotional visual statement.
Creativity Continues is a program that collectively develops creative voices by offering connection and encouraging expression. Because the goal is to engage all within our creative community, we encourage you to extend invitations and share Santa Fe Workshops Creativity Continues events with anyone who expresses an interest.
