American Geography with Matt Black and Amber Terranova

Event Date: Tue, May 20, 2025 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM MST

Santa Fe Workshops collection of free online events, Creativity Continues features a poignant evening with Magnum photographer Matt Black and independent photo director and educator Amber Terranova. In this timely presentation, Matt and Amber revisit American Geography and American ArtifactsMatt’s visual record of his six-year, 100,000-mile journey traveling by bus and by car across the United States.

Starting in 2014, Matt explored “the geography of poverty” – photographing an America and American lives that to him were the rule, not the exception. This extraordinary body of work deals directly with the flip side of the Dream, the fate of millions of Americans having to live with the psychological and physical pains and indignities of living poor in the richest country in the world. Concentrating on cities, towns, and counties with poverty rates above 20%, Matt discovered that he could travel from coast to coast without ever crossing above the poverty line

Matt and Amber conclude their conversation with a lively Q & A session with the webinar audience. Even if you can’t make the live event, a recording of it will be available for all those registered.
