From the eastern reaches of Japan to the deserts of Morocco, the photographic and cultural opportunities around the world are immense, truly providing something for everyone. Our team guides you through the many nuances of traveling and photographing on location, teaching you the histories, and showing you both the hidden gems and the must-see locations.
With Santa Fe Photographic Workshops as your guide, you experience carefully cultivated and compelling locations meticulously selected by our well-traveled expedition leaders and our local experts. Our programs allow you to go deeper into the heart of each destination than you would on a typical photo tour, with immersive experiences in fascinating places.
It is with careful consideration that we chose Japan as our starting point for our International Expeditions in 2016. It is an awe-inspiring place: an archipelago of 6,500 mountainous islands spanning over 1,800 miles from north to south. Mount Fuji, Kyoto, Tokyo, Pokemon, Harajuku fashion, sumo, sushi, advanced electronics, maiko (known to us as "geisha")—the images we have of Japan are many, but in truth there is far more to explore.
In 2017, we added India, the vast South Asian country with diverse terrain and history reaching back five millennia. It is the quintessential travel photographer’s paradise; we have all seen the iconic images of camel drivers with brilliant red turbans, entire neighborhoods painted deep blue, ornate palaces and ancient temples.
In 2018, we added programs to the cultural and spiritual heart of the Himalaya—Nepal and Bhutan. These serene and stunningly beautiful lands are home to ancient Hindu and Buddhist cultures that coexist to create unique architectural styles, diverse cultural traditions, and a visually rich environment for photography.
For 2019, we journey to a new continent as we uncover the beauty of Morocco; the ancient, walled historic quarters (medinas) of Fes and Marrakech, the Roman Ruins of Chellah and Volubilis, the coastal cities of Rabat and Essaouira. Other highlights include a full north-to-south traverse of the Atlas mountains, a camel ride and overnight stay in a deluxe desert tent camp in the dunes of the Sahara and 7 UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
