The world is changing— faster and faster— all around us. The way we capture our world in also changing. Join photographer, filmmaker, and 360 video addict Bob Sacha to explore the new language of making images and video in Virtual Reality/360 degree video.
Creative possibilities are all around us, literally in 360 degrees. But, as imagemakers, we’re used to putting a frame around our surroundings, choosing what the viewer sees. Exploring the world of 360 photography and video, which more closely matches our experiences, is almost like seeing for the first time.
Besides the new creative possibilities, there are also great reasons to offer a 360 degree skillset to your clients. Facebook and Google have both invested heavily in VR/360 video and see it as a large part of the future. Who are we to argue with those giants?
In this hands-on workshop we watch a number of award-winning 360 videos and figure out what makes them effective, talk about the special challenges—such as where does the photographer stand—of shooting an image or video that can see in every direction, review what works in 360 and what doesn’t, and explore the all-important question of where to place the camera. We discuss camera models, software, editing and stitching, and shooting strategies. We also touch on capturing sound and distributing your images and videos.
We head out, as a class and in teams, into the amazing world of Santa Fe’s wondrous light, landscape, and culture to shoot a lot 360 stills and video, create two 360 video stories and a number of stills, edit them, and finally upload them for all the world to see. We critique and refine along the way—and have a lot of fun, too!
Come be a part of the 360 revolution in imagemaking.
