What is a Master Class? It’s a limited-enrollment (8–12 participants max) workshop that offers you even greater access to our world-class instructors. Master Classes typically required a portfolio for admittance.
This unique and one-of-a-kind workshop with Joe McNally is limited to 12 advanced photographers who work directly with Joe throughout the week to explore the nuances of the language of light. The five days are a total immersion in the pursuit and articulation of pictures.
Each day, Joe produces a photo shoot as a learning opportunity for the class. He involves, engages, and informs the group in every step of the technical and creative process from conception to choosing the final image. Unlike Joe’s standard lighting workshops, there are no shooting assignments in this master class, nor are there group critiques of new images made by participants. The 12 photographers participating learn and expand their skills by closely observing tactics deployed by Joe in the studio and on location, followed by a frank discussion in the aftermath of what worked and what didn’t. This special class is a five-day, two-way street.
The mornings are spent reviewing participant’s portfolios, websites, personal projects and aspirations as photographers. Group discussions revolve around each photographer’s direction and goals. In addition, Joe shares information about the business of photography—jobs, estimates, bids, and the like. The information and discussions are practical and pertain to today’s challenging photographic marketplace.
In the afternoons, Joe pursues a photograph, occasionally simple, occasionally complex. Some of these photographic efforts are studio-based, others are location shoots in the beautiful Santa Fe environs. All involve the idea of speaking eloquently with light, and using the whole range of photographic skills to create a photograph that, at the end of the day, comes close to what you, at the beginning of the day, imagined the photograph to be.
Join Joe in his first-ever master class in Santa Fe to hone your fluency in the language of light.
