Photography continues to come of age as a truly democratic method of communication. Almost everyone now has access to this magical medium and actively use it to share experiences in everyday life. Yet we often have difficulty bridging the gap between our distinct individual visual voice and our ability to harness that uniqueness to its full potential. As a result, we struggle to elevate our photographs to a higher level of personal depth, eloquence, meaning, and visual impact.
In this two-and-a-half day workshop, Eduardo guides participants on a journey to become aware of their own visual accent, to bring this awareness to the forefront of their intention and creative process, and to begin channeling it into their photographic images. Through engaging group exercises and discussions in the field, we identify and explore elements within the visual stream of the world around us, discovering how they can be employed as instruments to further accentuate our unique perception and photographic interpretation.
Come prepared to expand your comfort zone, discover a wealth of resources that are always available to you, and begin a new chapter in your own visual journey!

Eduardo Rubiano, a former picture editor and digital imaging specialist at the National Geographic Society, is an internationally published independent photographer. He has lived and worked in Germany, Spain, Brazil, Colombia, and throughout the United States. His approach to the photographic process is deeply rooted in a quest to harness and direct each individual’s unique visual perception and potential by connecting with internal, experiential elements. A mentee of Magnum Photos veterans Burt Glinn, Dennis Stock and David Alan Harvey, he has developed a body of work heavily influenced by some of the great photojournalists of the last century while nurturing his own artistic vision. This is his third year teaching for The Workshops. His website is www.eduardorubiano.com.
“I really enjoyed Eduardo as an instructor; he was pleasant, knowledgeable, patient, and creative in his teaching.”
