Cuba is one of the most captivating countries in the world, a pulsating and multifaceted blend of history, music, dance, gracious people and their vibrant island culture. Here warm tropical light envelops all in its path, and Havana is an explosion of color that provides the perfect backdrop to explore photography with master color photographer and frequent Cuba traveler Arthur Meyerson.
This week offers the perfect tandem -- experiencing parts unseen of the bustling, vibrant, urban life as well as the rural countryside, frozen in time, just beyond the city limits. With intoxicating Havana as our springboard, together we venture off the tourist path and discover the little known and less-traveled backstreets of the city and its fascinating neighborhoods. We engage with the extraordinarily attractive, dignified, and resourceful Cuban people and their vibrant culture through meaningful people-to-people contact.
Each day holds unique adventures on our journey of discovery. We explore locations that are new and different from our past trips to Cuba. Kip and our large network of Cuban friends have dug deep to unearth fresh experiences that probe the unseen parts of Havana and the countryside. We meet Cubans from all walks of life that enrich our understanding of this complex place and lead us to new exploits. This is a perfect return trip for those who have been before as well as an ideal introduction to this compelling country for those who have not traveled to Cuba.
This program is designed for both amateur and advanced amateur photographers to work alongside Arthur to take their understanding and appreciation of color to a higher level. Through photo assignments, image reviews, and group discussions, participants focus on investigating light and color while working to establish a “visual fingerprint.” Arthur guides and inspires participants to see how their unique vision of the world can help to develop and refine an individual style.
Since 2010 Santa Fe Photographic Workshops has lead U.S. government-approved programs to Cuba. In these nine years we have established unparalleled access to cultural, artistic and historical centers in Havana and various excursions to the surrounding countryside. English-speaking Cuban photographers who live in Havana act as our local hosts and translators. In alliance with Cuba's premier photographic organization, Fototeca de Cuba, and its director Nelson Ramírez, our unique program allows participants to engage directly with Cubans, experience parts unseen of Havana and the countryside, and experience Cuba through a photographer’s eye.
This rich program offers a rare opportunity to engage with the Cuban people and discover and explore the country’s cultural diversity and her physical beauty through photography. Join Arthur, Kip and our experienced staff in Cuba for a memorable exchange enabling you to better understand this intriguing island and its capitol city.
