For an exciting and life-changing summer experience, Santa Fe Workshops has planned a new online workshop for young people who want to dive deeper into their interest in photography. Get Creative with Photography offers the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of photography and then dive into the creative potential of the medium with experienced Santa Fe Workshops teacher Brandon Johnson leading the way.
We start with learning the practical tools of photography, developing an understanding of how cameras work with light. Shutter speed, aperture, and ISO (the exposure triangle) along with basic rules of composition are important to understand even as technology introduces smaller cameras and more powerful automated features. While learning these basic camera techniques, we also look at the work of respected “traditional” photographers to better understand the techniques that were used to create their masterful images.
Once the fundamentals are understood, we then experiment with breaking the rules — having fun and getting creative with photography. And to help us, we look at the work of “contemporary” photographers. Brandon also introduces concepts and practices currently used in commercial, editorial, and portrait photography.
Get Creative with Photography is a three-week-long, interactive online experience that provides an energetic platform to discover new techniques, share inspiration, and review images together. Twice weekly assignments are designed to be both challenging and fun. Join Brandon in an encouraging and positive environment for a chance to spark the way you see and interpret the everyday world. This unique workshop offers the opportunity to develop the skills and sensibilities to never see the world the same again.
