Why do some photographs emerge as icons that speak to generations of collectors? How do particular photographers become household names?
Renowned photography collector, author, appraiser, and curator Daile Kaplan sheds light on these—and numerous other—questions as she introduces beginning and seasoned collectors to the nuances of the global market for photographs.
As they are guided through the ins and outs of this rich topic, participants explore the importance of understanding editions and provenance, the role of digital photography versus analog, spotting the difference between vintage and modern prints, identifying trends in the marketplace and their impact on the value of a piece, and how the market for classical photography differs from that of contemporary art.
Special care is taken in helping you to develop your own collector's eye so you are able to privilege an image over a technique or name brand. To that end, Daile points out the many collecting-related resources available: vernacular photography and photobooks, plus a host of bibliographic and online resources, including webinars and YouTube videos. Daile’s 90-minute lecture will be followed by 30 minutes for questions and answers.
Don't miss this rare chance to gain an expert's perspective on the multifaceted world of photography collecting.
