As we move quickly to expand SFW Online, some of the wonderful benefits we continue to discover are the scope and diversity of our affordable programming. For example, with many time and travel constraints set aside in virtual learning, we are delighted to offer Travel – Across the World and Deep Within, three hour-long presentations by esteemed travel writer Pico Iyer coming to you from his home in Japan. On the other end of the time spectrum, we are able to offer a six-week workshop titled The Photographic Journey – Refining Your Vision with Portland, Oregon-based artist Jason Langer. The educational possibilities are endless; we literally have a little something for everyone. We invite you to browse a few of our current online opportunities that still have seats available.

Short programs focused on the technical aspects of photography have been very popular this winter. In response, we continue to expand these technique-based offerings with two programs from Adobe Photoshop wizard
Maggie Taylor. Join her in March for Getting Started with Compositing, followed-up by Compositing with Maggie in April. Additionally, Cotton Miller leads Epson Print Primer over two evenings in late February to help cultivate your fine-art printmaking skills.

Break out your camera and engage your heart as a storyteller in
Alison Wright’s workshop Creating Social Change Through Photography. Or join former National Geographic editors Sarah Leen and Bill Marr in Editing the Visual Story as they delve into the transformation of a seemingly random collection of images into a compelling and dynamic visual narrative.

For those who want to refine their writing skills, we are pleased to offer the fifth session of
Pam Houston’s transformative workshop The Particular Beauty of Our Pared-Down Lives. Gina Rae La Cerva’s Flash Memoir: Exploring Unforgettable 2020 affords you the opportunity to hone your writing skills while processing what it means to live through this historic moment. Or discover how to give your writing submissions a fighting chance at publication while avoiding the pitfalls that lead to rejection with Max Talley in Submitting and Marketing Your Writing.

Sign up soon while these online programs are still open! If you don’t make it in time, get on the Wait List so you will receive early notification the next time the workshop is offered.

On Wednesday evening, February 3 at 6pm MT, Alison Wright, widely published documentary photographer and popular workshop instructor, will present her 20 selects and share her insights into what makes for a compelling image as she reveals her top choices from our My Holiday assignment. It is an event you will not want to miss!
