Santa Fe has been blessed with an incredible creative community. Our gallery offerings, among the largest in the United States, feature many of the nation's most prominent artists. In our 30th year, Santa Fe Workshops is excited to offer workshops from five local photographers this spring season, each with national reputations – Michael Clark, Melanie McWhorter, Tony O'Brien, Eddie Soloway, and Carlan Tapp.
Carlan Tapp | Expressive B+W Landscapes | March 22-27
Carlan Tapp is a longtime friend of the Workshops. Teaching with us for over 16 years, Carlan's work appears in numerous publications, including New Mexico Magazine, Associated Press, MSNBC, and NPR's Living on Earth. We love Carlan because, quite simply, he is one of the coolest dudes on the planet. As one of Harley-Davidson's go-to photographers for Hog®Magazine, Carlan creates incredible imagery for Harley and he even looks great riding a HOG. Check out this long-form story Carlan produced for HOG®Magazine: Bonus Miles: Border to Border on Highway 93
Carlan also happens to be one of the nation's best landscape photographers and printmakers. Earlier in his career, Carlan had the honor of assisting Ansel Adams for three years at the Yosemite Workshops. I had coffee with Carlan a couple of months ago and we both expressed a reverence for the tangible photographic print as the logical endpoint of the photographic process – not merely an Instagram rendering living on a smartphone. Join us in Santa Fe and embrace the process of creating beauty in black and white – with Carlan as your guide.

Tony O'Brien | Seeing Light | April 5-10
Tony O'Brien began his career in 1973 and his work has appeared in virtually every major publication from LIFE to The New York Times Magazine. Tony's work has been on display at the Museum of Our National Heritage in Massachusetts, Adam Center of Photography, and many other esteemed galleries. What we love about Tony is his calm self-deprecating demeanor. His work, a confluence of subject, empathy, and light, reveals a complex narrative in 1/1000 of a second. Tony lets his images speak for themselves and they speak volumes. An incredibly gifted teacher, Tony loves to mentor other photographers on their respective journeys and push his students to challenge themselves. We are honored to have Tony teaching with us, and students who take advantage of this opportunity are in for an engaging experience.
