Course Description

Every writer has a repertoire of forms in which they are comfortable writing, and this workshop focuses on expanding that repertoire.

With the guidance of writer, teacher, editor, critic, and publisher Kristina Marie Darling, we examine types of poetry that are seldom taught in creative writing classes, from erasure and collage to visual poetry and video poems. Together we consider the ways that poetry overlaps and intersects with other literary genres, as well as its rich and varied relationship to the visual arts.

Kristina’s dynamic group sessions include writing prompts, in-class exercises, and detailed discussions of each participant’s writing. We also examine work by contemporary poets, including Kylie Q. Gellatly, Sarah J. Sloat, Lisa Huffaker, Yedda Morrison, and Ronald Johnson; these brief readings and sample poems are provided in class.

Now is the perfect time to bring calm and creativity into your world through the pursuit of poetry. Join Kristina for an enriching opportunity to experiment, learn new ways to approach writing, and see yourself as part of a community of innovative working poets.
