Course Description

What does it take to be on the Mt. Rushmore of photography? A long career? A deep body of work? Classic images? Name recognition? Philosophy? Followers? Prosperity? None of that would hurt, and a lot of it would help. But none of it gets you chiseled into the minds of other photographers like being called ‘influential’—one whose work and way of life changed photography forever.

In three sharply defined but deeply discursive presentations esteemed photographer, writer, teacher, and eloquent orator Sam Abell defines who he thinks belongs on the mountaintop of photography—and why.

Sam’s opinion, informed by a lifetime of work, is respectful but also revealing. Join him and a world-wide audience as he peels back layers on the lives and accomplishments of three legendary photographers in a riveting, live, streaming broadcast. The presentations, delivered over three consecutive days in early June, draw on the deep but dramatically different work of three legendary photographers who changed both photography and the lives—Sam's among them—of the photographers who followed them.

A 10 to 15 minute Question and Answer session follows each daily presentation. Questions from the participants will be reviewed and a few selected during this informal wrap-up conversation.
