Course Description

Where do you look for artistic inspiration? For meaning or resonance? For what’s exciting or beautiful?

In this workshop Janelle Lynch helps you reevaluate and expand your conception of what constitutes photographable subject matter, while you solidify the formal and technical skills that allow you to create memorable images that celebrate—if not transform—the ordinary.

Through prompts, short readings, and introductions to contemporary photography, you hone your visual perception, activate your curiosity, and cultivate your presence of attention.

Class time includes lessons about the elements of art and principles of design integral to making compelling images. Weekly critiques provide constructive feedback and concrete suggestions that benefit all participants. Throughout, you are encouraged to suspend your preconceptions as you engage in a process of experimentation and inspiration.

At the workshop's end, each photographer prepares a final presentation of images celebrating the ordinary and their newly enhanced ability to make it extraordinary. You come away with a renewed discovery of the unseen, the unexpected, and possibly the unknown.

Santa Fe Workshops always aims to produce a high-quality experience for our online attendees. That said, variables including regional and local internet provider speeds, traffic on Zoom's servers, and your own computing hardware can contribute to a less than ideal streaming event. While we do our best to minimize the impact of these variables, they are outside the control of Santa Fe Workshops.

For the convenience of participants, recordings of each class session are posted privately for two weeks after the end of each session. Santa Fe Workshops takes the recordings down after two weeks to protect the intellectual property of our instructors.
