Course Description

Join photographer and writer Sal Taylor Kydd in the inspired setting of Santa Fe to explore your personal narrative through the lens of memory and personal symbolism. Sal offers evocative writing exercises that prompt you to uncover the deeper impulses behind your work and further examine them through allegory, myth, and metaphor. Her use of photographic cues encourages you to explore connections to the land and the natural world in Northern New Mexico to expand your own personal narratives.

Using the tools you have as photographers along with your imaginations, Sal and the participants work together to transform what we see into a lyrical and transcendental image. As poets use the language of metaphor and allegory, you learn to recognize motifs in your own work to create images rich in symbolism.

Our mornings are spent in the classroom discussing the motivations and threads that run through your work, as well as the personal vision you want to create – with a view to developing your portfolio. Afternoons are spent with Sal creating new images on location in and around magical Santa Fe.

Limited to only 10 participants, this workshop is designed for experienced photographers looking to a journey of exploration to discover the alchemical intersection of symbolism, myth, and personal history.
